Guys! I participated in my very first Cosplay event on February 24th, and I gotta say - I had an absolute blast! Now, I am not particularly into anime (although Cosplay isn't exclusive to anime - can be anything cartoon or fantasy related) my brother is totally into it and was able to sweet talk me into going to this event put on by Jane Ray (a well-known Cosplayer) in Little Tokyo, downtown Los Angeles.
I grew up watching Dragon Ball Z, so I decided to go as a gender-bended Vegeta! I had to hand-make the costume since Vegeta only comes in male-character costumes - but lucky for me, I wasn't the first to do a female version, so I had several youtube videos to assist! Check out my final product!
Words seriously can't express how proud I am of how it turned out. I am not a very artsy person, so this was quite an accomplishment! Although my husband didn't participate, I dressed my daughter as a mini-Goku, and we had a ton of fun posing for pictures.
Overall, the event was pretty well-attended. It was super cold though, so we headed out a little early, but we still got some good pictures with other Cosplayers. Unfortunately, I didn't get many pictures overall - there were a lot of people waiting to take pictures with some of the better costumed-folks, including Jane Ray, so I'll make sure I get better photos at the next event.
All in all, I met some pretty chill people at this event. I chit chatted with one of the photographers via Instagram, and they convinced me to attend Wondercon in Anaheim at the end of March (a bigger, more well-known event). I was able to score tickets in time, along with my brother and his boyfriend, so we will be in #squadmode when it comes around. I am super excited to do another one of these events! Even if you aren't in to dressing up, I still encourage folks to go because there is a lot going on - games, food trucks, cool people dressed up as your favorite characters. There is a little something for everyone (including kids!).
